Objective: Determine how bias can impact AI tools used for HR management and content development.

AI and Implicit Bias

One large area of concern with the introduction of AI is unconscious biases in algorithms. As HR professionals, you need to be aware of how biases in algorithms can make decisions that are not always correct. Watch the video below that explains how bias can make its way into AI programing.

Types of AI bias to be aware of:

ANCHORING BIAS-the tendency to rely on the first information we learn about something and make decisions based on this knowledge.
CONFIRMATION BIAS-the tendency to seek out, and confirm information of which we are already in agreement.
REPRESENTATIVENESS BIAS-assessing members that fit into categories based on stereotypes.

These are just three of over 188 biases we may be including in our decision making. Use page 2 of your workbook to reflect on how you can use guiding principles to eliminate bias for AI tools.

To understand how bias sneaks in without us knowing take one of the implicit bias tests found HERE. Describe your result in your workbook on page 2. Were you surprised by the result?

Discuss with classmates how you can ensure you are aware of unconscious or implicit bias when using AI tools for Human Resource Management.

Complete the two-question knowledge check. Score 100% to pass.
